Fellow Teachers:

As I mention on the main page of my web site, when my schedule won’t allow me to accept another tutoring student, I would like to be able to refer the client to another licensed teacher. If you’ve thought about earning extra income and actually being able to teach, as in doing what YOU think is best for a student to improve, read on.

Why licensed teachers? The reason I want licensed teachers as tutors is because I believe that with the training required to become a teacher and classroom experiences with many different students, teachers are better qualified to tutor than someone who might know how to do the coursework, but not know how to teach someone else to understand what they are doing.

I would like to have teachers readily available to teach any subject at any level that a client needs help with. I want to provide a client with a teacher/tutor who is able to determine where that student is “stuck” and provide the resources and instruction necessary to help that student “catch up” to where they should be, which will then (hopefully) enable them to “keep up” with the course material. (Thus the name of my business: “Catch Up – Keep Up Tutoring”!

To assist you in determining how you can help each student improve in school, I strongly encourage you to contact each student’s teachers.  I’ve found most teachers to be more than willing to discuss the things they wish they had time to do.

When I refer a tutoring client to you, you will make all the arrangements with the client, regarding:

How often you tutor: In my experience, meeting with a student twice a week for one hour at a time works best.

Where you tutor: Some clients want you to come to their home, others want to meet in a library. Some of the teachers prefer to tutor only in their own home and have the client come to them.

When you tutor: For some clients, tutoring in the afternoon when the student gets home from school works best. For others, they prefer to be tutored in the evenings or on weekends.

What you charge: You also decide how much you will charge the client for your time. Depending on how far you have to travel, and considering the cost of gas these days, $40.00 to $50.00 an hour is a reasonable fee. You keep all the money you make from tutoring, except for:

By contacting me and letting me know you want to tutor, you agree that for each client I refer to you, that you will send me a check for $50.00. That’s it! And, if you want to wait until you’ve earned the $50.00 from tutoring, that’s OK too.

Since I am just referring clients to you, you will not be technically “working for” me. You are an independent person and therefore responsible for claiming this income on your taxes, etc.

If you are interested in being contacted regarding tutoring opportunities, or have any other questions regarding this offer, send me an email at CatchUpKeepUpTutoring@yahoo.com. Let me know your name, phone numbers, what subject(s) you would like to tutor, and what area(s) of the city you would be willing to travel to. I will keep track of this information and let you know when I have a tutoring opportunity that fits you best!
